It really is worth checking out some places where you wouldn’t usually shop for some shoes this summer. Next are doing some brilliant boaters in a wide colour range, Burton not only have these fantastic suede loafers below, but also quite a good range if you can get past some dreadful styles.
Navy Suede Loafers by Burton £50
Also, if you are going to do canvas this summer, leave the plimsolles at home, and get a pair of these. They are already worn so you don’t need to worry about looking silly in your brand new shoes for the first couple of weeks.
Worn Look Boat Shoes by New Look £18
At such an affordable price, these loafers and boaters are a perfect summer shoe. They come in different colours, but the black gets my vote as the other colours stray a bit into grampa territory and too much tan is happening!

Asos have released their second collection of tailoring and as with most of their own brand stuff, it’s actually brilliant at brilliant prices. To pick up a suit for £80 redicuously cheap and the cuts are so much nicer than those at Topman, the only other high street retailer that has any good suiting. The jackets are cut like traditional jackets but a lot slimmer and slightly more cropped, whereas the Topman collection makes you look a bit like you have a womens jacket on. The collection comes in so many styles ranging from three piece to short suits, and you’d be silly not to at least buy a jacket.

Jack Wills really isn’t a brand I’m a fan of, but I can’t help but like these two looks. The more fitted joggers end up looking brilliant with the garish boating blazer and the slouchyness of the outfit makes it look effortless. The straight legged jeans distressed jeans look good with the more traditionally cut blazers and battered brogues work so well. I wouldn’t buy any of this from J.W. because £298 for a blazer is just too much, but I can guarantee boating blazers will be hitting a lower end of the high street soon.

This shirt by Upper Filth would look brilliant undone with a grey vest underneath and maybe a tight fitting, thin black cardi over the top.

The shops are going into mid season sales, and amongst the vast ammounts of shite, there are some good bargains to be had. Here is my picks.

Jumper by Junk De Luxe £84 £42
This fair isle knit is the only thing I could ever imagine wanting from River Island and I mangaged to snap it up half price the other day. Creates an easy slouchy look and is warm and comfortable. What more do you want?

Hoodie by River Island £34 £17
I actually cannot believ what a steal these are. Yes, I did have to suffer by going on the Burton website. But waht a bargain! Plus no cool people will have a clue where they’re from.

Brogues by Burton £50 £20

The Paul Smith shoes that you can buy this summer are by far the best collection I’v seen. 100% on trend, you can pick up everything from chelseas to tassles. Clumpy souls, and low cut chelsea boots are the stand outs, but don’t forget the sublime boat shoes. These are expensive shoes and far out of my price range, but take inspiration (or wait for the sale).

These are the most on trend shoes you can buy. Honestly. Team the cobalt blue with a camel color knit and you will be just perfect. But for £175 you would hope so.
The Denim Is Everything spring summer collection is finally coming through on the webiste, not all is through yet, just the t-shirts, but here is the definite pick.

Mark Ronson was GQ’s most stylish man 2009. Follow his lead!
1. Your shoes are the most important part of your outfit. Honestly, everyone can tell everything from your shoes. Update your footwear to the latest fashion and even if the rest of the outfit is quite simple, you can’t go too wrong.
2. Distinguish between style and fashion. There is a huge difference, just because skinny jeans are ‘cool’, if you don’t have the right body for them, it won’t make you stylish. Stick to shapes that will suit your body, so slim jeans if you’re the larger gentleman, and don’t cram too much into one outfit. Shoving loads of trends into one outfit can just look a bit ‘try hard die hard’.
3. Update your wardrobe regularly. If you are a fan of disposable fashion, don’t expect to look as cool as you do now, wearing the same outfit in 6 months. Plimsolls look so tired now because the fashion was disposable to cool people. Now everyone wants pumps. Move with the times because you can end up looking very dated very quickly.
4. Invest in a few timeless pieces. A good quality mac doesn’t go out of style, neither does a black v-neck etc. You can base your wardrobe around these items and always know you can go back to them if you’re not sure.
5. It’s an old cliche, but do not let the clothes wear you. People can just tell when you’re uncomfortable so don’t buy anything outside you’re comfort zone, sometimes it takes a few months to think a look looks good enough to wear out, so in the meantime don’t put yourself feeling like a twat and slowly update your look.
6. If you are going to be in a situation where you will feel silly wearing something you would find on a street style blog, such as the pub notorious for chavs, just look smart, most things look good with a grey v-neck and some chelsea boots and still allows you to express yourself without being started on for being ‘a fucking fagget’!
7. Don’t buy something just because it’s branded. There is nothing more pretentious than having a big logo splashed across your t-shirt. If it’s subtle if can look really nice. However, paying £70 for a cardigan you could get for £30 which is going to be the same quality is really sad if you’re just buying it to say where it’s from.
8. Use high street stores for essentials not statement pieces. Topman is a prime example. You can get some really nice stuff in there such as the blazers and the essential knits, but in terms of the graphic print tees and so on, do you really want a design everyone else has? Shop around for them because it’s well worth it when you can laugh at the 3000000 lil’ hipsters wearing the same tee.
9. As long as you have the basis of a good outfit, you can play around with it. Take inspiration from anywhere and you can create you own style, something that defines you. Fashion is not there to give you a uniform. Take the pieces you like and the pieces you’re meant to like and make them you’re own.
10. If you go sale shopping, do not under any means, buy anything that’s fashionable. Because it’s not. It’s out of season. Only buy essential pieces that you are getting at a steal, and don’t buy anything just because of the price, you’re not saving money if you’re not going to wear it.
11. In you’re workplace/school don’t let a uniform make you think you can’t express yourself. You can still be smart and fashionable. Ditch your standard ties for knitted ones, swap the suits for a slim blazer and chino combo etc. Things like that, when executed right can make you feel as comfortable as if you were wearing your own clothes.
12. Try not to look pretentious with accessories. One way to do it is to think whether you really need them. ‘Do I need a holdall when a satchel would suffice?’ Kind of thing. Same goes for wearing sunglasses indoors and wearing a straw trilby in winter. And clear lens glasses.
13. Keep basics basic. Vests are a basic item and should at most have a subtle pattern. Jeans too, no gold skinnies, save flamboyance for other items.
14. Don’t always listen to other people. You may think some of this is pure bollocks, and I think some of the ‘latest trends’ and other fashion blogs have some crap on them, it’s all about taking inspiration and making something your own.
15. Never, ever, under any circumstances show your toes.
